Imtiaz Dharker reads two poems from In Person: 30 Poets filmed by Pamela Robertson-Pearce. These two poems, 'Blessing' and 'They'll say, "She must be from another country"', are from Imtiaz Dharker's books Postcards From God (Bloodaxe Books, 1997) and I Speak For the Devil (Bloodaxe Books, 2001). Imtiaz Dharker was filmed in London. The first poem, 'Blessing', is studied in schools on GCSE English courses in Britain. The second is informed by Imtiaz Dharker's cultural experience, which spans several countries.

Storyhouse is a large, mixed-use cultural building in Chester, England, which opened in May 2017. The complex includes a theatre, cinema, restaurant and the city library. It is housed in the remodelled 1936 Odeon Cinema, a grade-II-listed building, together with a newly built extension to hold the theatre auditorium. The Storyhouse building serves four uses: a theatre, cinema, library and restaurant. As well as a full programme of theatre and cinema, Storyhouse hosts a range of community activities.
Imtiaz says, 'Storyhouse in Chester is an inspiring place: city library, cinema, theatre and restaurant all in one, it’s the most welcoming of public spaces, a buzzing centre for all kinds of work with the community. Over 121 community groups call it home. Since the start in 2017, its doors have stayed open till 11pm practically every day of the year, so lockdown is especially painful for them. Storyhouse (with its great Artistic Director Alex Clifton and his young team) need all our love and support to keep going and come back stronger than ever to be the live heart of the city.'
